Radeon GPU Detective and Driver Booster
AMD has released version 1.0 of its Radeon GPU Detective, an open source program to help developers analyze graphics card crashes. The free application software downloads crash dump files from a crashing DirectX 12 app and provides detailed, concise crash analysis reports. The tool has been designed to help debug issues like the infamous black screens that have plagued gamers over the years even though so called fixes have been rolled out for some time.
According to AMD, the tool is able to identify so-called TDR (Timeout Detection and Recovery) errors in applications that use Direct3D 12, but that previous APIs such as DirectX 11 or DirectX 9 and Vulkan are not yet supported by Radeon GPU Detective. Currently the developer tool is only available for RDNA 2 and RDNA 3 GPUs from AMD with RX 6000 and RX 7000 series cards, but the company says it will be extending support to other Radeon GPUs in the future as well.
